Thoughts

As a parent of one the boys on the team, I was just beginning to get to know Steve. However, it wasn’t long before I realised how lucky the team was to have such a nurturing, caring and encouraging coach. After some heavy defeats the children would come off the pitch down and upset. Steve would soon turn this around, speaking to each player and telling them something positive they had achieved, making them feel so proud of themselves. The difference in my boy’s confidence from starting on the team to now is a testament to the great partnership Steve and Amy formed, he will be greatly missed by all the team 💙

I can't even begin to put into words how much I'm going to miss you Stevie. Who knew that first day you brought Harry down to training would be the start of an amazing footballing partnership. I loved your drunken message 6 weeks into the first season of the then U8s. You were away with Lauren and the kids, told me you had your coaching badge. I replied message me back when you're soba incase it was the beer talking! I'm so glad you did, I couldn't have asked for a better person to run the team with. I knew I wanted Harry as captain weeks before you came on board as manager with me. Definitely his father's son , kind, caring, funny, supportive, he stood out right from the first training session. The first match they played and lost 18-0 Harry picked the ball out of the back of the net and put his arm round our keeper. A proper Captain. I'm struggling with the fact you'll never be stood by my side on a match day again. No discussions on what we're going to do at training, or the starting line up for match days, no United Liverpool banter. What will I do without my voice of reason when I'm getting frustrated, the encouraging voice to the kids when their heads go down during difficult games. I loved listening to you advising and guiding before, during, and after matches. I'll keep our motto going and I'll always remind them of the words we instilled in them for the last 2 seasons. The words we spoke as a team before the game, half time and the end which are- "We never give up." You always knew how much I appreciated your support. Our football team will never be the same, we both always said we are so lucky to have the set of players and parents that we do. I'll make sure to remind the kids of all your advice and wisdom this season as u10s and I hope they make you proud 💙 Aside from the football you are the most amazing friend. I know I hadn't seen you for a few years before Harry joined Hillgate but you were still the same amazing person I met 16 years ago. 💙
